Africa Pearls, Inc. Modeling and Talent Agency in Maryland, is hosting its 2nd Annual African International Modeling Competition and Fashion Expo at the Hampton Conference Center, 207 West Hampton Place, Capital Heights, MD, on Saturday, November 15, at 7:00 PM.
Africa Pearls is dedicated to defining for ourselves what true beauty is for African women of the Diaspora. This effort is growing in popularity among young African women and we expect to have 30 to 50 women will participate in the preliminaries this year. Twenty young women of African decent from northeastern states will compete for fist, second and third place.
The evening will feature performances by African and American entertainers, including former contestants, celebrity judges and an awards ceremony for trend setters in fashion. Designers Denita Skye, RozeMarie Cuevas of JC Studios©, Anna Kosturova and Chéz Noel of VanNy ISD Gallery are among the designers participating in the Fashion Expo.
Screen Scope Pictures, a Maryland-based film production company (maker of Nigerian Hollywood and American films) will be on hand to scout for new leading ladies for future film project. Nollywood is the second largest movie industry outside of the United States. With Nollywood films growing in popularity in America, several Nigerian film producers have begun to open studios here to develop mainstream films.
Africa Pearls will also host a silent auction to benefit the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network (SCTPN) a nonprofit 501(c)(3)organization providing advocacy, education and support services to families living with Sickle Cell Disease nationally and worldwide. “Africa Pearls wants to continue the momentum of Sickle Cell Awareness Month in September to continue with raising public awareness of this devastating illness, says Africa Pearls president Junda Morris-Kennedy. Sickle Cell Disease is the most common inherited disorder in the world and severely affects African, African American, Latino and Caribbean people.” For more information about Sickle Cell Disease and SCTPN log onto: www.sctpn.org.
